Partnership Branch Home / Development Assistance / Partnership Branch
Within the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Partnerships with Canadians Branch (PWCB) is responsible for international cooperation programs with colleges, universities, companies, non-governmental organizations, cooperatives, unions, professional associations, and other institutions.
The PWCB programs are carried out in partnership with these organizations.
The main objective of the Branch is to help CIDA carry out its mandate of supporting sustainable development and reducing poverty in developing countries.
Partner organizations design and carry out projects that aim at improving the quality of life and building the capabilities of local civil society and private sector. In turn, these partnerships promote knowledge development and creativity in the voluntary and private sectors, both in Canada and in the developing countries.
PWCB is the main point of entry to CIDA for Canadian partners. It provides grants and contribution to the Canadian and international organizations (both profit and non-profit) to support sustainable development in developing countries. Funding is responsive to the initiatives of these organizations. Currently, PWCB has approximately 800 partners and manages about 1200 programs and projects.

It builds partnerships between Nepali and Canadian civil society organizations (including organizations that send volunteers), the private sector, academic institutions, professional associations, and government departments. As of July 2004, there are approximately fifty-four active projects in all development regions of Nepal.
